Classroom management for ADHD learners

Embracing Differences

25/04/24 – 18.00-19.00 | Agnieszka Dzięcioł-Pędich

ADHD is a common condition caused by differences in the brain. Its main symptoms are trouble with focus, impulsivity and hyperactivity. Learners can have them to varying degrees, and not everyone has all three. Teachers have to bear in mind that ADHD is not a matter of laziness or willpower; on the contrary, learners with ADHD frequently invest a lot of effort into being focused and keeping their impulses in check. ADHD learners require more attention and care than the rest of the classroom, and they may make teacher’s job taxing.

The aim of this webinar is to help teachers understand what ADHD is. The first part of the session will be devoted to the condition's main symptoms; as well as discussing the three presentations of ADHD, I will also show how ADHD manifests differently in boys and girls.

The second part of the webinar will focus on the most effective classroom management strategies for Primary and Secondary school learners. I will mention, among others, classroom seating, information delivery, student work, and organisation, as well as strategies for starting, conducting and ending the lesson.
